Year 4/28

Why am I different? While our parents do everything they can to ensure our survival, I am taken to nursery school. And here, for the first time, I realise that I am different. My only, but very intense, memory of this time: I am sitting in front of the door to the group room and am not allowed to join in with lunch. I have to wait because my parents are late and I experience being excluded. I think I have done something wrong, I cannot stop the tears. I was not used to this feeling. We have a large family and lots of cousins, but I have never seen any child my age being excluded, and even though we didn't have much, we shared even the last bite with our neighbours. It is a cultural difference that I still do not understand and that shocked me at an early age.
